The Mara Foundation

We have taken on the challenge of finding ways to tackle some huge social challenges, and to do that we need to adopt an innovative approach that brings something new to the fields of work that we enter. We are able to do this because our existence is assured by the support of Mara Group of companies, who cover the cost of our overheads. To increase our impact further, we conduct fundraising events, and seek for partners who support our approach.

Mara Foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Mara Group, which works to find replicable and sustainable solutions to some of Africa’s most pressing problems. To advance this mission, Mara Foundation's first project aims to tackle and improve education in Uganda by improving facilities, quality of education and management in poorly run government schools.

The foundation will support various other causes both in the education sector and an increasing array of humanitarian causes in various African countries. Mara Group covers the complete administrative and operational costs, so that 100% of donations are invested into the cause.

Entrepreneur Launchpad Programme

Mara Foundation's Entrepreneur Launchpad aims to support the start-up and growth of young businesses in Uganda and Kenya. At the heart of the initiative is the Mentorship Programme, which is designed to help young enterprises survive the cut-throat world of business by creating alliances with strong players who have already succeeded in running successful companies. Through this programme, young entrepreneurs will be able to position their businesses for sustainable growth through one-on-one sessions with a mentors drawn from the top of the business world.

The Next Generation Programme

We partner with government secondary schools to put students first to ensure they get the education they deserve. The Next Generation is a programme of investment and management for government-funded secondary schools in Uganda. We will make a small capital investment to improve school facilities, and then engage with the school long-term to enhance the quality of education provided there, using our core principles of efficiency and effectiveness.
