Mara Foundation

Mara Foundation

The foundation’s aim is to complement the growth and success of the Sub-Saharan African region by finding sustainable and replicable solutions to some of its biggest challenges. At Mara, we believe that the best way to achieve this is to treat development work the same way we treat business – except that our bottom line is not profit, but social impact.

The foundation’s main focus is education. In Uganda, the foundation is pioneering a cutting-edge programme of investment and management for government secondary schools. By making interventions that embed new administrative procedures in the school, we are able to cut costs, increase human resource output, develop teachers and enhance educational methodologies. The impact will be more and better secondary education for the future generation of Uganda. Additionally, the foundation is leading the implementation of an international programme that addresses educational disadvantage by getting the best university graduates to commit two years to teaching in the most disadvantaged communities.

Mara Group covers the overhead costs of the foundation, and we raise money for our pioneering work through fundraising and partnerships. Our biggest fundraising event is Cycle4Uganda, which will bring 100 cyclists from across the world on a 7-day expedition through Uganda.
